Legislative Advocacy
Our Commitment to Protecting Homeowners and HOAs
At Kerrane Storz, our dedication to homeowners and community associations goes beyond the courtroom. We fight not only for our clients’ rights in construction defect cases, but also for stronger consumer protections in the legislative and policy arenas across Texas and Colorado.
Legislative Advocacy
- Helping to Shape the Law – Our firm is regularly involved in drafting bills to support homeowner rights in Texas and Colorado, and we have participated in the drafting of the current laws which govern construction defect cases in Colorado and Texas.
- Regular Testimony – Our attorneys frequently testify before the Texas and Colorado legislatures and their committees, to ensure that lawmakers hear the voices of homeowners and HOAs.
- Amicus Briefs – We contribute to important appellate cases by filing amicus briefs that help shape the law on key issues affecting communities.
- Candidate and Legal Fund Support – We support candidates and organizations that prioritize consumer-friendly policies protecting homeowners.
Leadership in Industry Action Committees
- Members of our firm serve on the Community Associations Institute's (CAI) Colorado Legislative Action Committee (CLAC) and the Texas Legislative Action Committee (TLAC).
- We are proud supporters of Colorado’s Build Our Homes Right (BOHR) coalition.
- We contribute financially to CLAC and TLAC, and BOHR to strengthen their ability to advocate effectively on behalf of community associations.
The Dollar-a-Door Program
We strongly support CAI’s Dollar-a-Door program, which funds the vital work of CLAC and TLAC.
- Firm-Funded Contributions – During our representation, Kerrane Storz will fund the CLAC and TLAC Dollar-a-Door program contribution on behalf of each of our clients.
- Continuing the Commitment – We encourage our clients to continue supporting this program even after their cases are resolved, to ensure ongoing protection for all homeowners.
Why This Matters
Construction defect litigation often pits homeowners and HOAs against powerful interests, including large developers and the insurance industry. By engaging in legislative advocacy and supporting key initiatives, Kerrane Storz works to level the playing field—so that communities have a strong voice and the legal protections they deserve.
Together, we can protect our homes, our neighborhoods, and our rights.
